Both young and old look at a piece of wood or cloth and begin to laugh, cry, or be surprised. What is the secret of puppetry? Making use of simple materials, everyday artifacts, and our bodies, we create living characters from within silent material and we will learn how to manipulate the puppets through various techniques. Puppet Theater is a larger art that includes within it handiwork and design, acting and dramatization, voice, sound, rhythm and movement. This is an ancient art with many faces which renews itself over and over. Through the workshop exercises we will also learn about the theoretic aspects of puppetry through anecdotal tales from the wonderful history of this art form.
